October 25, 2014: Kristi Jenkins & Jess Michaels

NOTE: We will be meeting in ballrooms ABC (around back) this month.

Morning Session: NaNoWriMo Bootcamp

Bring a notebook and pen, and come prepared to write! Kristi Jenkins, one of our fabulous new members, will walk you through a pre-National Novel Writing Month bootcamp so that you– and your novel– will be whipped into shape before the big event. Kristi has 10 NaNo “wins” under her belt, and served as Tucson’s official NaNoWriMo Municipal Liaison for six years. She’ll share her best tips and tricks for not only surviving, but thriving during your most challenging month of writing yet. Whether you’re doing our chapter’s 25,000 word challenge, or the full 50k NaNo, Kristi will help you reach the finish line with a solid first draft and your sanity intact.

Afternoon Session: Book Bub and the Writing Life

Jesse Petersen (writing as Jess Michaels) will cover the infamous Book Bub– what it is, what it does, and what happens when you get the chance to use it. She will open the floor up to questions about the process and share her insights about the experience. Jesse will also tackle a discussion about what the schedule of a full-time writer
looks like, including a schedule of how she balances her time between writing and social media/marketing. You won’t want to miss it!

Jess Michaels began writing full-time in 1999 after being encouraged by her husband to follow her dream. In 2003, she sold her first novella to Red Sage Press, an erotic historical romance about an Egyptian tomb and a very sexy curse. Since then she has published (or has contracted to publish) nearly 50 novels and novellas under three different pen names with several major publishers, small presses and via self-publishing. Her erotic historical romances have been national bestsellers and won awards from booksellers and readers.

She and her awesome husband live in Tucson where she enjoys playing video games, exploring the beautiful desert, spending time with her nephews, reading and spending petting her two old lady cats.
