June 24, 2017: Show Up Naked: Writing the Male POV

Show Up Naked: Writing the Male POV

Chris Redding will take you on a funny and fun journey of discovery about men, including why they act the way they do and how they express emotions. She’ll talk about how our society has socialized them and the stages they go through in life. At the end of class you will be able to write more realistic male characters while keeping them larger than life heroes.

Layering: Not Just for Cakes

In this class, you will start with two pages of dialogue and transform it into a fully functioning scene. By adding each element of what needs to go into a story individually, you will see how it all makes the whole. You will also be able to add all the elements seamlessly, including description and character emotions. Instead of deconstructing a scene, you will be constructing a scene from the ground up. I will provide the two pages of dialogue.

Chris Redding grew up in a neighborhood with more boys than girls and learned to love baseball and hate Barbies. She spent much of her life in male dominated professions, including pizza delivery and emergency medical services. She graduated from Penn State with a degree in journalism. She has five books published, all romantic suspense.

The meeting starts at 10 a.m., lunch is included in the fee. For RWA members, the meeting fee is $25 and for guests the fee is $30. Please reserve your spot by the Wednesday before the meeting. We hope to see you there!
